Buyer's Guide

The complete home wellness buying guide

Everything you need to know before buying a sauna, hot tub, cold plunge, steam shower, or swim spa — from measuring your space and comparing specifications to delivery, installation, and total cost of ownership.

STEP 1

Assess your space & site

The most common buying problems start with the site, not the product. Confirm these five things before you order.

Measure the footprint

Confirm the product's full dimensions against your installation site, including clearance for entry, ventilation, and service access.

Check the access path

Measure doorways, hallways, stairwells, gates, and corners along the delivery route. Tight turns may require white-glove or curbside drop-off.

Prepare the foundation

Hot tubs and swim spas need a level, reinforced pad that supports the filled weight. Saunas need a flat, dry surface. Cold plunges need a level, drain-friendly spot.

Plan for outdoor exposure

For outdoor installations, confirm the site is graded, drained, and sheltered from prevailing wind where possible. Allow clearance for covers and service panels.

Confirm delivery access

Freight carriers need a clear path from the truck to the site. Note narrow lanes, low branches, parking limits, or gated communities in advance.

When in doubt, contact us with your dimensions and photos. We'll help confirm the product will fit and that delivery is feasible before you buy.

Specifications worth comparing

Marketing pages highlight features; this is the short list of specs that change how a product performs and what it costs to run.

Size & capacityMatch the footprint to your site and the user count to your household. Bigger isn't better if it won't fit or can't be serviced.
Heater / chiller typeInfrared vs. traditional sauna heaters; hot tub kW and jet count; cold plunge chiller HP and minimum temperature; steam generator kW.
Construction & materialsCabinetry (cedar, hemlock, composite), shell material (acrylic, roto-molded, stainless), insulation value, and cover quality.
Power & electricalVoltage, amperage, and whether a dedicated circuit is required. Confirm your panel has capacity before ordering.
Insulation & efficiencyFull-foam insulation, thermal covers, and double-glazing reduce running costs and hold temperature.
Controls & featuresDigital controllers, app connectivity, lighting, jets, and programmable cycles. Pay for features you'll actually use.
WarrantyLength and coverage of the structural, shell, electrical, and parts warranties. Longer structural coverage signals build quality.
CertificationsUL/ETL listing, CSA, CE, or other electrical safety certifications. Required for safe, insurable residential installation.

STEP 5

Delivery & installation planning

Large wellness products ship via freight. Plan the delivery and the installation as two separate steps so both go smoothly.

Processing (1–3 days)

We pick, pack, and prepare your order. Large freight items may take longer to stage.

Shipped with tracking

Standard shipments include a tracking number by email. Freight shipments include a scheduled delivery call.

Carrier schedules delivery

For freight, the carrier calls to arrange a delivery window. Keep your contact details up to date.

Adult signature required

Someone 18 or older must be present to receive and sign for freight deliveries. Inspect before signing.

Transit times after the 1–3 business day handling time: Expedited 2–5, Standard Freight 5–8, Curbside 7–10, White Glove 10–14, and Free Shipping 12–16 business days.

Full details, flat rates, and freight scheduling are on our delivery information and shipping policy pages.

STEP 6

Electrical & plumbing requirements

Most wellness products need more than a standard outlet. Confirm your panel and plumbing before you order, and use licensed trades for installation.

ProductElectricalWater / Plumbing
SaunasInfrared: dedicated 120V/20A or 240V circuit depending on size. Traditional: 240V dedicated circuit.None (dry heat). Outdoor units need a weatherproof pad and clearance.
Hot Tubs240V/50A dedicated GFCI-protected circuit, installed by a licensed electrician.Filled with a garden hose; no permanent plumbing. Drain via built-in spigot.
Cold PlungesPortable: standard 120V outlet. Built-in chillers may need a dedicated circuit.Nearby drain for overflow and drainage; no permanent plumbing for portable units.
Steam ShowersDedicated 120V or 240V circuit for the steam generator, installed by a licensed electrician.Hot/cold supply lines and a rated drain, installed by a licensed plumber.
Swim Spas240V/50A+ dedicated GFCI circuit (some models require 60A), installed by a licensed electrician.Filled with a hose; no permanent plumbing. Drain via built-in spigot.

Electrical and plumbing work must meet local code and be performed by licensed professionals. Always confirm exact requirements on the product page and with your installer before purchase.

STEP 7

Operating costs & maintenance

A wellness product is a small ongoing commitment. Know the routine before you buy so you can keep it running cleanly and efficiently for years.

Energy use

Heaters, chillers, and pumps draw power whenever they run. Full-foam insulation and a quality cover cut standby loss and keep running costs down. Estimate monthly electricity from the product's kW rating and your local rate.

Water care

Hot tubs and swim spas need sanitizer, pH balance, and filter cleaning on a weekly schedule. Cold plunges need periodic draining and sanitizing. Steam showers need descaling in hard-water areas.

Winterization

Outdoor hot tubs, swim spas, and cold plunges in freezing climates need winterization or continuous operation to prevent damage. Plan for it before the first cold snap.

Routine upkeep

Replace filters on schedule, inspect covers and seals, and service components per the manufacturer's manual. Budget an annual service for complex units.

STEP 8

Warranty & after-sales

Know what's covered and what to do on delivery day — it protects your investment from day one.

Warranty coverage

Warranty terms are product-specific and stated on each product page. Review structural, shell, electrical, and parts coverage before purchase. Register your warranty after installation.

Warranty policy →

Inspect on delivery

Before signing, inspect for visible damage and note any issues on the delivery receipt. Contact us within 48 hours with photos if anything is wrong — we'll file a freight claim and arrange a replacement or refund.

Returns

Return eligibility varies by product. Unused items in original packaging may be returned within the window in our policy; large freight items may carry restocking and return shipping fees. Review the policy before ordering.

FAQ

Buying questions, answered

Start with how you'll use it — heat therapy, hydrotherapy, cold recovery, or aquatic exercise — then match the product to your space, utilities, and budget. Each product page lists specifications to help you compare, and our team can help you decide.

Most saunas, hot tubs, steam showers, and swim spas need a dedicated 240V circuit installed by a licensed electrician. Steam showers also need a licensed plumber for supply and drain lines. Confirm requirements on the product page and book trades before delivery.

Plan for delivery (flat-rate by method), site preparation, electrical and plumbing installation, accessories, and ongoing operating costs. See the total cost of ownership section above for a full breakdown.

Many saunas and hot tubs are rated for outdoor use. Check the product page for indoor/outdoor rating, required foundation, and weatherproofing. Outdoor units in freezing climates need winterization or continuous operation.

Inspect for visible damage before signing the delivery receipt and note any issues. Contact us within 48 hours with photos if anything is wrong. Keep the original packaging until any issue is resolved.

Measure the full delivery path before ordering. If access is tight, choose curbside delivery or arrange white-glove service. Contact us with your measurements before purchase and we'll help confirm feasibility.
